Seal Enclosure for Sydney Aquarium
Highly corrosive environment required hot dip galvanization and a 2-part epoxy paint system. Structure installed on an existing floating barge, temporary ramp installed to base of barge in order to gain access for crawler crane. Crane used to install structure, removed on completion.
Sydney Cove International Passenger Terminal
Very tight program, all steel including 18 metre 700 WB beam, delivered into site through standard double access doors using portable roller benches taking only 3 hours using 2 fork lifts.
5 suspended curved ceilings
5 suspended curved ceilings. Very quick turn-around to meet construction program needs. Each suspended unit required 4 different radii to form required shape. All units fabricated whole then cut in half. Sections craned through second storey window then site welded together in very confined space. Lifted into position with 2 gennie hoists and fixed to existing rafters.
Fences, pedestrian gates and 8m double auto-vehicle gates
Heritage listed site. Fence and gates to be sympathetic to existing historical environment. Fence erected to divide the northern tip of the island comprising historical garden and buildings from southern side which comprised defence industry. This made the north accessible to the public, which had never been the case. The fence needed to include a large vehicle auto access gate for high volume usage. The client had high security needs for pedestrian and vehicles, security card access was essential.
Project completed in two stages. Stage one: Stiffen and strengthen existing beams, remove columns, add mezzanine to existing first floor. Stage two, stiffen existing beams, remove beams, temporarily prop existing roof and remove one side of this roof, replace with new higher roof including an atrium. Provide new mezzanine to existing first floor, fabricate and install 25mm plate steel blade walls to entry.
This project required a very fast turn around time as the client was still trading during construction. Difficulties included very limited access to first floor of building and limited head height. All mezzanine steel was erected with 1,500 kg walk behind electric forklifts.
Modification and relocation
Modify three existing structural steel lift shafts and access walkways. Man of Steel built and installed two of the original shafts. Identify and stamp all steel members, dismantle structure and transport to painters and erect at new site. Tight time frame; 3 weeks to modify and disassemble, 1 week to paint, 1 week to install. These test shafts are used to train technicians and to show potential customers Schlindlers products. This structure is the centre-piece of their Australasian headquarters.
Modification and relocation
Fast simple structure, slab being pre-cast concrete suspended between parallel 180 PFC channels. Channels laid first hen a series of portal frames bolted to PFC channels, purlins and girts bolted to portals.
