Australian Chinese Ex-Servicemen Monument
Haymarket, Sydney
Man of Steel assisted the architect to redesign the original semi-circular plinth base which was to be made from concrete - into a 530UB steel beam with profile cut steel brackets to support eight individual raking steel trays to house the granite memorial plaques. The monument was fabricated whole and finished to a very high quality. This was then painted, transported to site and craned into position. A sculptural 12m light tower was also craned into position, complete with all radial arms connected.

Amity
Sculpture by the Sea 2005, Bondi
Amity is a sculpture designed and fabricated by Lee, Bruce and Benita Tunks. The sculpture is approximately 6m high, 5m wide with a footprint of 10m. It is made from 32mm plate steel profile cut to various shapes and lengths. A custom built hydraulic press was made by Lee to bend the steel into required shapes. All the edges were beveled by hand-held plasma cutting torches. Text in 5mm plate petal infill was also hand-cut. When completed, the artwork had to be braced for transportation and two large tail sections needed to be cut off and site welded back into place at new location. This sculpture was acquired by the University of Western Sydney and is part of their newly constructed medical faculty.

Cows
Woolloomooloo, Sydney
Lee Tunks was commissioned by a film production company for the television program, Guerilla Gardeners who required 3 sculptural cows. Lee had 3 days to design, fabricate and deliver the cows. Lee decided by using different styled 44 gallon drums, with varied degrees of weathering and damage each cow could show its own individual personality. The idea is that the sculptures have no protective coating and will age as all of nature does. Design solutions needed to consider potential vandalism and longevity.
